Description

MANGANO CALCITE

Calcite was “discovered” relatively recently by the metaphysical community and so it was not included in any early lapidaries, texts that describe gemstones and their powers. Calcite is an extremely common and soft mineral which makes it an excellent choice for carving, both in ancient times and today. It is certainly possible that many of the carvings had healing and spiritual purposes.  Most Calcites are found in Limestone. In fact, the word “Calcite” comes from the Greek word chalix, meaning lime.  Calcite was included in 20th century lapidaries, but Mangano Calcite’s specific metaphysical properties weren’t described until Judy Hall’s The Crystal Bible, published in 2003.

Most Calcite is colorless or a dull neutral color.  Pink Calcite, either pale or vibrant is rare.  Mangano Calcite is a pink variety that is typically mined in Peru, although it is occasionally found in other countries.  The name comes from the element manganese, which gives the stone its pink color.  The same element also colors pink stones like Rhodonite and Rhodochrosite.  Mangano Calcite can be pure pink, but it often has faint stripes of pale pink and pinkish-white.  Other varieties of Pink Calcites are colored by different elements.  For example, vibrant pink Colbalto Calcite from the DR Congo gets it coloring from Cobalt.
